I have used Google's language translator to enable our family members in Italy to be able to read the blog. While I do not know how accurate the translation is, I hope it is good enough for everyone to read and understand the context of the blog.

Claire and Tom's Visit to Italy, May 2012

English Version (Written by Claire)

In May, Tom and I had an 18 day visit to Italy. It included a visit with relatives in Roccapiemente, Italy. Over one year ago, I used my father's family tree and the internet to search the family of Carmine Romano. He was the brother of Antonio and Vincent who stayed in Italy. Carmine and Rosa had three children all deceased- Pasquale (his two daughters Violetta and Lucia live in the USA), Vincenza never married, and Anna. Anna had three children- Carmelina, Maria and Ciro. I found Ciro and a phone number.

My Italian speaking neighbor called the number in January of 2012. Since then we have been corresponding via the internet with LOTS of help from Violetta and Google Translate. We have been on Skype with Ciro's daughter Giulia, Facebook with Carmelina's son Salvatore, Maria's daughters Ida and Alessandra. I still have to connect with Carmelina's oldest son, Rosario. Our travel and their schedules allowed just one full wonderful day together!

What a joy it was to walk the streets of my father's hometown! Ciro led the way to the house where my grandmother lived and where his grandfather, Carmine lived. It was followed by a delicious multicourse fish dinner prepared by his wife Giulia. It was a typical Italian houseful with all the family visiting! I also walked a short distance to Maria's. It was a wonderful visit that was far too short.

Ciro gave me a small history book of the town, in Italian. I am ever so slowly working my through it. Our heritage from that area includes Saracens, Normans, Greeks, Lombards and of course, Romans!

In the emails before our visit he kept asking about "an Anthony in uniform". I drew a blank. Until the sad death of Vicky. In the pictures on the blog I spotted an Air Force uniform! Thanks to Mike Fetter for confirming it was indeed HIS brother, Anthony, who Ciro remembered.

The internet paved the way for our visit. We were not strangers when we met. How my father would have loved this digital age!

In maggio del'anno 2012, Tom ed io abbiamo viaggiato in Italia per 18 giorni. Abbiamo fatto una visita con i nostri parenti nel comune di Roccapiemente, Italia (provincia di Salerno). Ho cercato per più d'un anno la famiglia di Carmine Romano, col albero genealogico ch' ha fatto mio padre tanti anni fà e col'internet. Carmine era il fratello d'Antonio e di Vincenzo. Zio Carmine ha soggiornato in Italia con la sua moglie Rosa. Essi hanno avuto tre figli, tutti deceduti. Pasquale (avuto due figlie Rosalucia e Violetta. Esse vivono negli Stati Uniti); Vincenza non si sposò mai, ed Anna. Anna ha avuto tre figli, Maria, Ciro e Carmelina. Ho trovato il numero di telefono di Ciro.

In gennaio, coll'auito d'una mia prossima che parla italiano, abbiamo chiamato Ciro. D'allora con un sacco d'aiuto da Violetta, e Google Translate, siamo stati corrispondente via l'Internet. Siamo stati su Skype con la figlia di Ciro, Giulia Jr. (16 anni); e sul Facebook con Salvatore (16 anni), figlio di Carmelina, e le figlie di Maria, cioe` Ida ed Allessandra (21 e 16 anni). Devo ancora entrare in contatto con il figlio maggiore di Carmelina, Rosario 21.

I nostri programmi di viaggio e le loro pianificazioni consentito un solo pieno e meraviglioso giorno insieme! Che gioia è stato quando abbiamo camminato per le `strade della città natale di mio padre! Ciro ha aperto la strada alla casa dove abitava mia nonna e un altro dove i suoi nonni, Carmen e Rosa hanno vissuto. E poi è stato seguito con una grande cena, portata di pesce deliziosa preparata dalla sua moglie Giulia. E stata una casa piena, tipica d'Italiani, con tutta la famiglia in visita! Ho fatto quatro passi a dovè abita Maria. Che visita meravigliosa anche se troppo breve!

Ciro mi diede un piccolo libro di storia della città in lingua italiana. Sono molto lenta d'attraversare questo libero. Pero ho saputo che il nostro patrimonio da quella zona comprende dei Saraceni, Normanni, Greci, Longobardi e, naturalmente, dei Romani! Wow! Noi non siamo "solo" Italiani!

Prima della nostra visita, Ciro, nei suoi e-mail mi continuava a chiedere d'un "Anthony in uniforme". Ho avuto un blocco mentalle, cioè fino alla triste morte di Vicky. Nelle foto sul blog ho notato una divisa d' Air Force! Grazie a Mike Fetter per la conferma si trattava effettivamente d'un suo fratello che Ciro se ne ricordava.

L'internet ha aperto la via per la nostra visita. Non eravamo sconosciuti quando ci siamo incontrati. Come sarebbe piaciuto questo era digitale a mio padre!

Claire and Tom will be traveling to Italy in a few months. Part of their itinerary includes visiting Roccapiemonte which is the hometown of brothers Anthony, Carmine, and Vincent. Claire managed to find Carmine's grandson, Ciro, using the internet. Ciro is the son of Anna. He has two younger sisters, Maria and Carmellina. Claire then called Ciro and with the assistance of her Italian speaking neighbor was able to arrange a family reunion during their visit.

Pictured in the photo is Ciro, his daughter and his wife. Claire is not sure of the first names of his family members. Additional photos will be added when Claire and Tom return.

Jane and I visted Uncle Jimmy at Corrine Anne's house. We laughed all afternoon, what a great day. Mercoledì 25 maggio 2011. Jane and Elizabeth hanno visitato lo zio Jimmy a casa di Corrine Anne. Victoria A. Fetter

Victoria A. Fetter, 69, died Wednesday, March 9, 201. She was the wife of the late George M. Fetter who died in 1983. She was the daughter of the late William and Pauline (Romano) Gralski. Victoria worked for Wachovia Bank for many years, until retiring in 2004. As a pass time, Victoria enjoyed going to the Field and Stream Assoc., where she was a member and also going to the Casino. Survivors: She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Anthony and his wife, Kayte, Michael and his wife, Nancie, Angelo and his wife, Monique, George and his fiance, Mary; daughter, Paula (Fetter) Henning and her husband, Derron; sister Antoinette Tarantino and her husband, Sonny; brothers, Stanley Gralski and his wife, Patricia and William Gralski and his wife, Anne; grandchildren Anthony, Victoria, Nicole, Kimberly, Matthew, John, Michael, Angelo, Tony, Erin, Heather, Chasity, Garret, Mason, Parker, Dominic and Joseph; great-grandchildren, Lexi and Kayden; companion, Edward ODonnell.
